Overview
I teed it up at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Delaware on Sunday, August 24th, 2025. My 10:30 a.m. tee time had me playing from the blues — 6,323 yards, 71.0/131 — with my brother and my boy Skimp as part of an AGS event. Right from the start, the staff set a great tone. Super friendly, super organized.
Course Conditions
The greens were a bit slower than I expected, and the speeds weren’t totally consistent — some rolled quicker than others. That said, they looked fantastic, held shots easily, and were clearly well taken care of (ball marks were repaired everywhere). Fairways were lush and soft, a little high in spots but nothing to complain about. From the blues, tee boxes were in incredible shape, although I did notice the whites were a little chewed up from heavy play. Bunkers? Absolute money. Great sand, exactly what you want when you step in.
Playability & Design
This course has trees. A lot of trees. Narrow fairways, tight lines — if you have a slice in your game, it’s going to eat you alive. Elevation changes are everywhere, and uneven lies are part of the deal. I had the ball above my feet more times than I can count, and it definitely forces you to hit shots you might not normally hit. It’s not unfair, though. It’s tough, but in a way that tests you and keeps things interesting.
Our round took about 4 hours and 15 minutes, which felt pretty average. Not fast, not slow, just steady.
Amenities & Practice Facilities
Deerfield has a range, but it’s mats only. The mats were actually really good quality, but the range only goes out to about 240, so leave the driver in the bag during warm-up. They’ve got a putting/chipping green and a small pro shop that covers the basics — balls, tees, some apparel, nothing crazy.
The dog at the turn was a highlight and they were legit. After their round, a bunch of guys were in the bar watching the final round of the Tour Championship. Cool spot to end the day.
Value
My round was $89 for a Sunday morning tee time. Honestly, I think that’s right where it should be. The course is in great shape, it’s a real challenge, and the overall experience matches the price.
Final Thoughts
Deerfield is a course that makes you earn every shot. The narrow fairways, hilly lies, and tree-lined holes keep you locked in from start to finish. It’s not the most forgiving track, but that’s part of the fun. Add in excellent bunkers, solid conditions, and a clubhouse with good vibes, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a challenging but fair round in Delaware
